We are back from France! Our eight days in Paris, Provence and Nice were spent eating, eating, and eating (with some sightseeing and museums as time-fillers). Paris was dreary and rainy... and my fourth visit there only served to confirm that I don't love the City of Lights that much, although Versailles, the Musee D'Orsay and the Rodin Museum were revelations.
The south of France was such a wonderful change after the rain in Paris - beautiful blue skies and sun-drenched vistas opened before us - it was almost too bright! We loved wandering around in the narrow cobble-stoned alleys of Provence and strowling through the street market selling fresh produce.
Nice on the Cote d'Azur glittering like a jewel
Then it was off to Nice, on the French Riviera, which was absolutely delightful with its pebble beach, wide beachfront promenade, and quaint shops in old Nice, even if it was a tad cold to sunbathe (although we managed a 5 km run on the promenade wearing t-shirts and shorts).
We also found time to hop over to glamourous Monaco, a mere 40 min bus ride away from Nice. Gawking at the unbelievable array of cars parked in front of the Monte Carlo casino, dining with beautiful people in a Joel Robuchon restaurant, we almost felt like characters in a James Bond movie. More on food in the next few posts!!
